Jason was a 14hh coloured cob who originally pulled a cart along Blackpool’s Golden Mile.
His driver died, so he was sold to a dealer and then given to my local riding school. When the riding school closed down I bought him and we became close companions until his death 16 years later. He was bombproof, quirky, reliable and helped me to gain confidence through his dependable nature. I started to manage my eating disorder, as I needed to take care of myself to take care of him.
He was very bonded with Winnie and protected him from other ponies like an old mother hen. He would trot up and down the field fending off ponies from interacting with Winnie.
Once we were attacked by a Rottweiler bitch, as we rode through Pope’s woods. Jason stood like a statue, while the dog lunged at his throat & back legs. The dog was eventually called off by someone cutting wood with a chainsaw. We were fortunate to get away & Jason was unphased by the incident. He taught all my nephews and nieces to ride when they were very young.
As he got older his knees became very arthritic, so he retired from being ridden. He gradually became so old that it was kinder to have him put to sleep in his early 30’s
